In Todays article we are going to talk about two of the major luxury car brands that have been leading the car manufacturing industry for years. These German brands are considered the giants of brands. First let's read some interesting history about these two Brands.



Mercedes Benz

Mercedes-Benz Traces back to Karl Benz's first internal combustion engine in a car which was financed by Bertha Benz and patented in 1886 . Later, Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach joined them and in 1901 their car was marketed By DMG (Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft).  Emil Jellinek, a Jewish-Austrian entrepreneur made The company named the 1901 Mercedes 35 hp after his daughter, Mercedes Jellinek. Emil Jellinek came to an agreement with DMG 500,000 Goldmark ( which was the currency of the German empire) if Wilhelm Maybach would design a revolutionary sport car with 35 hp.



Mercedes Benz Brand, as we know now, was established in 1926 and headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany. At first they produces luxury vehicles and light commercial vehicles. But starting 1929 they also produced heavy vehicles such as trucks and buses.




BMW


Bayerische Motoren Werke ( Bavarian motor factories) was founded in 1916 in Munich, Germany, as an aircraft manufacturer from 1917-1918 and again 1933- 1945. BMW's first product was air craft engines called BMW IIIa designed by Max Friz. After world war I, BMW remained in the business by producing motorcycle engines, farm equipment and household items.

BMW;s first car was called, Austin 7s ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austin_7 ) in 1928. from 1930's BMW expand the variety of their products to sports car and luxury cars.

and It goes back to the air craft manufacturing and how the pilots would see the white clouds and blue sky through the the air craft motor blades.

According to JD powers, these two brands rank closely in term of over all reliability.

however, BMW focuses more on sporting and performance. ( handling, breaks and etc. )

while Mercedes is more focused on safety, comforts and driving experience.


JD powers, in term of reliability ranks them for the numbers of problems that people can experience. BMW rank is 11th overall with 108 problems per hundred vehicles. However, Mercedes-Benz ranked 15th with 122 problems per 100 vehicles.


But, based on the consumer's report, BMW has climbed to the top 3 in terms of overall score ( Road test, reliability and satisfaction and safety) Where as Mercedes-Benz has fallen short and was ranked worse than before.

BMW For years, takes pride in performance and handling features alongside with beautiful exterior designs; where Mercedes has perfected interior designing for its vehicles and comfort amenities. in the recent years both brands have tried to cover their weaknesses. for cars and pedestrians, and the BSW system can now include side-collision avoidance capabilities. The NHTSA awarded the Mercedes-Benz GLE a 5-star overall crash rating in 2022.

The 2021 GLE also received the best possible safety rating from the IIHS, Top Safety Pick+.
